UT Stays on Top Through Midway Point at Shark Invite

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The University of
Tampa men's and women's swimming teams held onto their leads at the
Shark Invitational, as both remain in first place with two more
days remaining.
The second day included several record-breaking performances
for head coach Ed Brennan's team, as a pair of relay teams and one
individual entered the Spartan record book.
Tampa's men have tallied 883 points through two days to lead
host Nova Southeastern (766), Florida Southern (677), Rollins (229)
and Lenoir-Rhyne (149).
In women's action, Tampa leads the way with 817 points.
Trailing the Spartans are Nova Southeastern (681), Florida Southern
(639), Rollins (244), Lynn (243) and Lenoir-Rhyne (120).
UT's women's 200 Free Relay team of Erin Plachy, Marisa
Barton, Amanda Fernandes and Briana Murphy finished second and set
the first school record of the day, notching a time of
1:33.61.
The men's 200 Free Relay also registered a school-record time
of 1:19.84 as they won the race over Florida Southern and Nova
Southeastern. The winning and record-setting team included Khalid
Aldaboos, Jeremy Parker, Runar Borgen and Derek Krell. Both relay
performances were also NCAA A times.
Lexi Webb placed third in the 400 IM for UT, being timed at
4:29.67 and a B time. Zane Hranac was second in the men's 400 IM,
as his B time was clocked at 3:58.54.
Runar Borgen set the third school record of the day, as his
48.29 effort in the 100 Fly was good for fourth place and a
provision al qualifying time.
Murphy then scored second-place points in the women's 200 Free
with a B time of 1:51.18.
Tampa returns to the pool on Saturday, with the prelims
scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the 5 p.m., finals portion of
the day.
