Spartan Women Ranked Eighth In Nation
NEW ORLEANS - The University of Tampa women's cross country team has moved up one spot to No. 8 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II National Poll. The Spartans were previously No. 9 after opening the season at No. 12.
The Spartan women are also ranked as the No. 1 team in the South Region while the UT men carry a No. 9 ranking the region. Tampa's women have now been ranked in 34 consecutive polls dating back to the first week of 2006.
Tampa finished eighth in the final poll of the 2008 season and was 14th at the NCAA Championships. UT was ranked as high as No. 7 last year, representing the highest ranking in school history.
The Spartan women are coming off a first place finish at the Pre-National Invitational in Evansville, Ind. Through four races, Tampa has captured three first-place finishes and was second at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational. The Spartans have also won the Early Bird Classic and Florida Tech Invitational.
Tampa returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Kissimmee for the Disney Invite.
