Deanna Henriott Sets UT Strikeout Record to Defeat #16 Saint Leo
TAMPA, Fla. - Freshman pitcher Deanna Henriott turned in a 16 strikeout performance as the University of Tampa softball team handed #16 Saint Leo University a 2-1 loss. The Spartans improve to 27-7 on the year and 10-3 in the Sunshine State Conference with the win. SLU drops to 27-11 and 8-5 in the SSC.
While topping Devlin Dougherty's previous school record of 15 strikeouts from 2006, Henriott mowed down the Lion hitters, allowing just four hits. With the victory, she is now 18-5 on the season.
The Spartans struck for a pair of runs in the second inning, which proved to be enough for the victory. Krystal Crooks scored the first run of the game on a pass ball as Jessica Keefe then drove in Jessica Tejas to give UT a 2-0 lead.
The teams will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m., in a doubleheader to conclude the SSC series. While UT is second in the SSC behind Barry (12-0), the Spartans are now two games ahead of the Lions.
