Buccaneers Issue Sweep To Spartans
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team continued its offensive troubles as Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University (31-20, 13-8 SSC) issued a sweep to the Spartans with a 5-1 and 1-0 victory in Saturday's doubleheader. With the pair of losses, UT falls to 18-16 and 9-9 in conference play.
The Spartans were able to strike first in the early game courtesy of a wild pitch, scoring Shannon Kelly.
The Buccaneers were able to compile three in the fifth and two more in the sixth en route to a game one victory.
Heather Van Landingham (10-10) tossed 5.2 innings with five strikeouts, allowing a trio of earned runs.
The Buccaneers were able to keep UT off the scoreboard in the second game to earn the weekend sweep. Amanda Goelz provided Barry with a single down the right-field line, scoring Julia Chongarlides.
Kari Walsh (8-6) got the nod in the second game, tossing 6.0 innings while striking out two and allowing the lone run.
The Spartans are set to continue conference play as they travel to Florida Southern to take on the Rival Moccasins in a three-game set. The first game is set for Friday at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
