#16 Tampa Tops #8 Bloomsburg To Split Final Day In Clermont
CLERMONT, Fla. - The No. 16 University of Tampa (16-2) softball team met a pair of nationally ranked opponents as it split games with No. 21 Kutztown University (13-2) and No. 8 Bloomsburg University (2-2). In game one, KU defeated the Spartans 5-0 as UT rebounded with a 2-0 victory over a top-10 opponent in BU.
In the first game of the day, UT lead-off hitter Julie Wisniewski accounted for two of Tampa's five hits as Tampa's school-record 12-game winning streak came to an end. Kari Walsh (5-2) pitched for the Spartans and took the loss. The senior went 6.0 innings and struck out seven Bears.
Against Bloomsburg, Tampa struck in the fourth inning as Brittany Joseph singled home Susan Jallo to cross the first run of the contest. UT tacked on another run in the sixth when Brittany Hipple homered to left field.
Deanna Henriott moved to 11-0 on the season as the junior notched her fifth shutout and ninth complete game of the year. In 7.0 innings, she one-hit the Huskies while striking out 11.
