Spartans Split With Nova Southeastern; Take SSC Series
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 15 University of Tampa (20-3, 5-1 SSC) softball team took the first game of a doubleheader with Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern University (17-8, 1-2 SSC) by a 2-0 score and dropped the second game by a 1-0 margin. The Spartans conclude the series with a pair of victories after taking Saturday's opening game.
In game one, Susan Jallo collected a pair of hits, including a triple, and Becky Vyzas drove in a run to lead UT.
Kari Walsh (7-2) started and went 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four Sharks. Deanna Henriott pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn her first save of the year, giving up just one hit while striking out five.
Nova scored the deciding run of the second game in the fifth inning as Sara DeMuth led off the frame with a double. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, DeMuth scored the lone run of the contest on a wild pitch.
Henriott (13-1) went the distance for Tampa, throwing 7.0 innings while allowing just five hits and striking out seven.
