Spartans Sweep Warriors In Double-Header
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 10 University of Tampa softball team (27-3) swept the double-header on Wednesday against the Warriors of Webber International University (10-18). Tampa took the first game 2-1 and posted an 8-0 score in the second game in only five innings.
In the first game, the Spartans were led by a two-run home run hit by Becky Vyzas in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shortstop Julie Wisniewski added two hits and a run scored. Katlyn Raatz also had two hits of her own.
Those were all the runs Tampa would need because Deanna Henriott threw yet another gem. Henriott held the Warriors to one run and only two hits to improve her record to 17-1 on the season while striking out 14 Warrior batters.
In the second game of the double-header Tampa cruised to an 8-0 win. The Spartans outhit the Warriors 12-2 in their 27th victory of the season.
Kari Walsh threw five scoreless innings to get her 10th win of the season improving her overall record to 10-2. Walsh only gave up two hits while striking out four.
Wisniewski led the Spartans with three hits and two runs in the second meeting as centerfielder Brie Walton also chipped in with two runs and two hits. Additionally, second baseman Brittany Joseph led Tampa with four RBI on two hits. Susan Jallo tacked on two RBI and two runs with one hit.
Tampa action will return Friday for a three game series as the team travels to Sunshine State Conference foe St. Leo.
