Tampa Holds A Spot In The NCAA South Regional Poll
INDIANAPOLIS -The University of Tampa softball team picked up the No. 3 rank in the current installment of the NCAA Division II South Region rankings, as released by the NCAA.
The Spartans are one of five Sunshine State Conference schools in the top-10, joining No. 2 Rollins, No. 6 Barry, No. 9 Nova Southeastern and No. 10 Florida Tech. Alabama-Huntsville currently takes the No. 1 spot in the rankings.
Tampa is currently 32-7 on the season and 19-6 versus South Region opponents. UT opened the season with a school record 12 consecutive victories while also setting a record for the best start in program history going 15-1. Tampa has most recently been tabbed at the No. 18 team in the NFCA national poll as released Tuesday.
The Spartans return to action on Friday as the team takes on the Florida Southern Moccasins in a 7 p.m. meeting at the UT softball field with a doubleheader senior day series following on Saturday with games beginning at 1 p.m.
The top eight in the regional rankings earn a selection to the 2011 NCAA South Regional tournament as the games will be played at two separate sites followed by a Super-Regional.
