No. 7 Tampa Set for Weekend Series Against Florida Tech
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa softball team is set to take on Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech for a weekend series. This will be the first time the two teams face each other this season.
The first game of the series is set for 6 p.m., on Friday evening at the Vince Naimoli Softball Field, with a double-header starting at 1 p.m., on Saturday.
UT comes into this series with a record of 11-2, while Florida Tech sports a 9-10 mark. This series will be the first SSC matchups of the season for both Tampa and Florida Tech.
The all-time record for the Spartans against the Panthers is 43-31. They last met in the 2012 season, and the Spartans swept the three-game series in Melbourne, Fla.
Tampa has been boosted by stellar pitching performances by both Kayla Cox and Julia Morrow. Cox earned the SSC Pitcher of the Week honors by tossing three complete-game shutouts, including a perfect game.
The offense will look for continued production from the top of their lineup. Kayleen Boatwright, Stacy Piagno, and Meagan Burke have set the table well for the Spartans, all of whom have a batting average over .340 with a combined 30 RBI and 24 runs scored.
Admission to all UT softball games is free of charge. Live stats and a broadcast will be available through tampaspartans.tv.
