Kayla Cox Continues Stronghold Over SSC Awards
ORLANDO, Fla. - For the third time of the 2013 season, University of Tampa softball player Kayla Cox has been honored as the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced Monday by league commissioner Jay Jones.
Cox, a junior from Riverview, Fla., picked up both wins in the No. 7 Spartans' conference series victory against Florida Tech. She tossed two complete games, one of which was a shutout.
In a 1-0 win in the series opener, the only thing separating Cox from her second perfect game of the season was an error by her infield. She did not permit a single hit or walk while striking out 15. The performance marked her fourth no-hitter of the season.
Cox then allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks in a 2-1 victory in game two of the series. She struck out eight Panthers in the contest.
