Kayla Cox Picks Up Fourth SSC Pitcher of Week Honor
ORLANDO, Fla. - Kayla Cox has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time of the 2013 season, continuing her dominance.
Cox, a junior from Riverview, Fla., went 2-1 with three complete-game performances and a 0.67 ERA. Her lone loss, which came in a 1-0 setback to Fort Hays State, was due to no fault of her own, as Cox threw her fifth no-hitter of the season and issued no walks. The lone run allowed by the Spartans came as a result of an error by Cox's infield.
She struck out 19 batters in the game. In a 3-1 SSC win at Saint Leo, Cox permitted one earned run on one hit and two walks. She fanned eight. In a 7-1 decision over the Lions, she allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks. Cox tossed seven strikeouts in the contest.
