Meagan Burke and Kayla Cox Sweep Softball Player of the Week Awards
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Meagan Burke and Kayla Cox have been selected Sunshine State Conference Softball Players of the Week presented by VALIC.
Burke, a junior first baseman from Jacksonville, Fla., led the No. 13 Spartans to a conference series sweep of Rollins over the weekend. The junior hit two game-winning RBIs in the series, including in a 2-0 game-one victory and in the 1-0 game-two win. Burke finished the week going 6-of-10 at the plate and slugged .900 with a home run. She drove in three runs and scored one time.
Cox, a senior pitcher from Riverview, Fla., led the No. 13 Spartans to a conference series sweep of Rollins. In game one, Cox nearly pitched a perfect game. She hurled a one-hit complete-game shutout in a 2-0 win, allowing no walks and striking out 14 batters. During the series, Cox allowed no runs, amassed 18 strikeouts and earned two victories in 12 innings of work.
