Julia Morrow Tosses First Career Perfect Game in Spartans 4-0 Victory

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The No. 17 University of Tampa (3-0) softball team continued its dominance in the Eckerd College Spring Invitational with a victory over Chadron State (0-4) by a final score of 4-0.

Julia Morrow started in the circle for the Spartans and tossed 7.0 innings while striking out 15 and allowing no runs on no hits. Morrow recorded her first career perfect game and improves her record to 2-0 to start the season. The senior retired the first nine Eagles on strikeouts to begin the game. Her perfect game is the seventh in school history and 25th no-hitter.

Bre Setree put UT on the board in the top of the first with a clutch two out RBI single to plate Meagan Burke for a 1-0 lead.

The Tampa offense tallied three runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead over Chadron State. The Spartans drew three consecutive walks with two outs to load the bases and set the stage for Lindsay Dring. The senior delivered a two run RBI base hit as designated player Jen Sittloh followed with an RBI single to give UT a 4-0 advantage, which would be the eventual final score.

Dring led the team with three hits on the afternoon. Meagan Brislin, Kelsey Humphrey, and Taylor Collins each chipped in with one hit each to give Tampa 10 in the game.

The Spartans will return to play at the Eckerd College Spring Invitational on Sunday morning against Colorado Christian and West Florida with the first game starting at 9 a.m. Live stats will be available at www.tampa.statbroadcast.com.
