Tampa Offense Erupts as Julia Morrow Hurls No-Hitter
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The No. 17 University of
Tampa (5-0) softball team swept a pair of games against Colorado
Christian (2-3) and West Florida (1-4) on Sunday to conclude the
Eckerd College Tournament. UT finished the weekend with a perfect
5-0 record to start the season.
Jennie Sittloh started game one for the Spartans against Colorado
Christian and earned her second victory of the season. She tossed
5.2 shutout innings with one strikeout while allowing five hits.
Julia Morrow entered in relief and pitched the final 1.2 innings as
the senior tossed four strikeouts to end the game as she recorded
her first save of the season.
Meagan Burke blasted a solo homerun over the left field fence with
two out in the bottom of the first for her second of the weekend
tournament to give Tampa an early 1-0 advantage.
Bre Setree extended the UT lead in the bottom of the third on a two
out RBI single that scored Kandi Kuder giving the Spartans a 2-0
lead, which would be the eventual final score.
Sahrina Cortes and Korrin Cline each contributed to the offense
with a base hit each to total seven in the game.
Morrow took the circle in game two and tossed 5.0 innings with 10
strikeouts. She hurled her second no-hitter of the weekend and now
holds a record of 3-0.
The UT offense erupted for six runs in the top of the first to take
an early lead over West Florida. Jenna Halper and Taylor Collins
each had two RBI in the inning while Setree and Alyssa Colletti
each chipped in with one apiece.
Lindsay Dring added to the Spartan lead in the top of the fourth as
the senior delivered a two RBI base hit to push the lead to
8-0.
Tampa tallied an unearned run in the fifth inning and went on to
win the game 9-0 in five innings via the run rule.
UT will return to action Saturday afternoon in its home-opener for
a doubleheader against Colorado Christian with the first game set
