No. 17 Tampa Set for Home Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 17 University of Tampa
softball team is set to welcome Colorado Christian University for a
doubleheader at the Naimili Family Softball Field on Saturday at 1
p.m.
UT got off to a fast start last week at the Eckerd Classic, going
5-0 while outscoring opponents 26-1.
Senior pitcher Julia Morrow opened the year in dominant fashion as
she threw a perfect game and no-hitter while throwing 20.1
scoreless innings. She also notched 39 strikeouts while winning
three of the five games.
The Spartan offense got out to a quick start as well, led by senior
Meagan Burke. The two-sport star hit .700 with a pair of home runs
and three RBI. Bre Setree (.467), Lindsay Dring (.438) and Kandi
Kuder (.412) are each hitting over .400 as Setree and Jennie
Sittloh lead the team with five RBI apiece.
Among the victories last week was a 2-0 victory over Saturday's
opponent as Sittloh registered the win while Morrow earned the save
while throwing a perfect 1.1 innings to close the game.
CCU is 2-8 on the season as all 10 of the Cougar games have come
against Sunshine State Conference opponents.
Jessica Romine leads the Cougars with a .419 batting average,
followed by Sarah Ramsussen at .310. In the circle, Mariah Bledsoe
and Jennie Winston have each registered one win.
Last week's game was the first meeting between the two NCAA
Division II opponents.
