Spartans Cruise Past Pioneers with Perfect Pitching
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (14-7)
softball team swept a pair of games with No. 10 LIU Post (0-2) at
Vince Naimoli Family Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Julia Morrow started game one for the Spartans and earned her 10th
victory of the season while hurling 7.0 perfect innings with 15
strikeouts. The senior recorded her second career perfect game and
third no-hitter which totals eight perfect games as well as 27
no-hitters in program history.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first five innings as
Morrow and Pioneers starter Megan Balcido dominated in the
circle.
Tampa took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a clutch two
out RBI single by Bre Setree that plated pinch runner Alex Walton
which would be the eventual final score.
Sahrina Cortes and Jenna Halper led the Spartan offense with two
base hits each. Kandi Kuder, Meagan Burke, and Lindsay Dring also
contributed with a base hit apiece.
Morrow started game two for the Spartans and claimed her 11th
victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts
while allowing one run on two hits.
Tampa took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Setree doubled
to right plating Cortes and Korrin Cline.
LIU Post finally managed to rally in the top of the sixth as
Melissa Peet doubled to start the inning. She advanced to third on
a sacrifice bunt and came around to score on a wild pitch to cut
the deficit to 2-1.
The Spartans added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as
Dring delivered an RBI groundout to extend the advantage to
3-1.
Morrow and the Tampa defense held on for the victory in game two to
sweep the doubleheader.
Cortes led the offense with two hits in the game while Kuder,
Burke, and Dring each tallied one to total five.

Tampa will return to action Friday evening for the first of a three
game SSC series at Rollins with the first pitch scheduled for 7
