Tampa Offense Rallies Late to Top Eckerd
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa
(22-9, 10-6 SSC) softball team claimed a 4-1 victory over Eckerd
College (27-10, 8-8 SSC) at Turley Complex on Thursday evening.
Senior Julia Morrow started for the Spartans and earned her 19th
victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 innings with 14 strikeouts
while allowing one run on two hits.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first five innings as
Morrow and Tritons starter Amber Hay dominated hitters holding the
opposition to one and four hits respectively.
The Tampa offense erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh.
Jenna Halper broke the 0-0 tie with a two RBI single to bring
around Alyssa Colletti and Kelsey Humphrey. Meagan Burke and Bre
Setree followed with back to back RBI singles giving UT a 4-0
advantage.
Kara Oberer homered in the bottom of the inning to cut the Eckerd
deficit to 4-1. Morrow and the Spartan defense held the Tritons
scoreless for the final three outs inning to claim the victory.
Kandi Kuder and Burke led the Tampa offense with two hits each.
UT returns to action on Friday at 5 p.m. at Eckerd to conclude the
Sunshine State Conference series with a doubleheader against the
