Nova Edges Tampa in Home Finale
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (25-11,
13-8 SSC) softball team dropped a pair of games to Nova
Southeastern University (18-22, 6-15 SSC) at Naimoli Family Field
on Saturday afternoon.
Julia Morrow started game one for the Spartans and was dealt her
sixth loss of the season. The senior recorded 13 strikeouts in 7.0
innings pitched while allowing one earned run on seven hits.
Jenna Halper gave Tampa a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as
the senior delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Lindsay
Dring.
NSU responded in the top of the third on an RBI single by Brenisha
Bannister that scored Courtney Bridge. Dokata Villella followed
with an infield single to bring around Bannister giving the Sharks
a 2-1 advantage.
The Sharks added an insurance run in the seventh extending the lead
to 3-1 on an infield single by Bannister to bring around
Bridge.
Tampa was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning as
Nova Southeastern claimed the victory.
UT honored six seniors including Meagan Burke, Taylor Collins,
Lindsay Dring, Jenna Halper, Kandi Kuder, and Julia Morrow between
games of the doubleheader.
Morrow started game two for the Spartans and took her seventh loss
of the season. She tossed 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts while
allowing two earned runs on six hits.
NSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second as Haley Gonzales
delivered a two RBI single to score Meagan Lee and Katie
Blummer.
The Sharks extended the lead to 3-0 scoring on a fielding error by
the Spartans.
Tampa cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Kuder
delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Halper.
The Spartans added a run in bottom in the seventh cutting the
Sharks lead to 3-2 on an RBI single by Kuder scoring Halper. Tampa
was unable to score the tying run in the inning as Nova
Southeastern held on for the victory.
