Spartans Silence Fighting Knights in Shutout
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Tampa (26-11, 14-8 SSC) softball team claimed a 2-0 victory over Lynn University (20-23, 10-12 SSC) at Lynn Softball Field on Friday afternoon.
Senior Julia Morrow started for the Spartans and earned her 23rd victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing three hits.
Tampa took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Bre Setree delivered a clutch two out RBI single to plate Sahrina Cortes.
The Spartans extended the advantage to 2-0 in the second with Jenna Halper coming around to score on a Kandi Kuder RBI double.
Morrow and the Spartan defense held off a comeback from the Fighting Knights to claim the victory.
Kuder and Setree led the offense with two base hits each. Cortes, Halper, Lindsay Dring, and Taylor Collins each chipped in with a base hit apiece.
UT returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lynn to conclude the regular season with a doubleheader. Live stats will be available through www.tampa.statbroadcast.com.
