Stellar Seniors Sweep SSC Softball POW Honors
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Julia Morrow and Kandi Kuder have been selected Sunshine State Conference Softball Players of the Week. Morrow (Sr., Baiting Hollow, N.Y.) claims her fifth award of the year, while Kuder (Sr., Newbury Park, Calif.) earns the honor for the first time this season.
Morrow earns her conference leading fifth player of the week award of the season after three complete game victories last weekend. In a 2-0 win in game one, she threw 7.0 innings and gave up no runs off three hits and struck out 10. This game marked the 12th shutout of the year for Morrow. Over the three games, the senior pitched 21.0 innings and gave up one earned run off 11 hits, struck out 21 while posting an ERA of 0.33. The regular season finale against Lynn marked her 30th complete game of the season.
Kuder went 6-for-9 with four RBIs, three runs, a home run, and recorded multiple hits in each of Tampa's three road wins last weekend against Lynn. In game two against the Fighting Knights, the senior went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored off the first homerun of her career.
The dynamic duo of UT seniors Morrow and Kuder helped the Spartans secure their second straight SSC title claiming an automatic bid to the regional tournament.
