UT Softball Earns Automatic Bid to NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Tampa softball team has been selected to its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament as it will open at the NCAA South Regional on Friday.
UT will travel to Florence, Ala., as the University of North Alabama has been selected as the host of the four-team field. The other four teams from the region will travel to Valdosta State University. The NCAA Super Regional is scheduled for May 15-16.
With the No. 7 seed, Tampa will play Friday at 4 p.m., against No. 2 Rollins College. No. 3 North Alabama will open against No. 6 Florida Tech in the double elimination tournament that ends on Sunday.
UT won its second consecutive Sunshine State Conference championship this season, and fourth overall. The Spartans are currently 28-11 and closed league play at 16-8.
This marks the fifth consecutive NCAA South Regional appearance for the Spartans, and the seventh in the past eighth years.
