TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team is set to host Flagler College on Tuesday afternoon for a regional double-header.
The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (10-6, 4-5 SSC) vs. Flagler College Saints (12-10)
Date/Time: Tuesday, March 5 || 3 p.m. (DH)
Location: Naimoli Family Softball Field || Tampa, Fla.
Series History: The teams have only met four times, and they've spilt the series at two games apiece. The most recent contest came in February 2017 when Flagler defeated UT, 5-0.
About the Spartans: Tampa's on a four-game losing streak as they were most recently swept by Rollins College. Senior pitcher Makaleigh Dooley has an 8-3 record on the year, with 78 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched. In 11 appearances, the Wharton HS graduate owns a 1.15 ERA and has allowed only two walks this season. She leads the SSC in wins, strikeouts, and fewest walks allowed. Emalee Jansen leads the team in hitting with 12 hits in 34 at-bats, while Lexie Chevalier trails by one base knock and the freshman has logged a team-leading four extra-base hits.
About the Saints: On Sunday afternoon, Flagler swept Davis & Elkins in a two-game series. The Saints spilt a double-header with No. 4 Valdosta State on Thursday, Feb. 28, a mutual opponent for UT. Tatum Morgan leads the way with 23 base hits in 69 at-bats. The junior from Lake City, Fla. also leads the team with six doubles and two home runs. Morgan Murphy leads the Saints with 10 RBI and she's tied for second with six walks. This season, the Saints are 5-5 in 10 games against SSC competition.
