Tampa Softball Set to Open 2026 Campaign
TAMPA, Fla. – The 2026 season opens at home for the University of Tampa softball program as Head Coach Leslie Kanter and the Spartans begin another championship-driven campaign following a historic 2025 season that culminated in a trip to the NCAA Division II College Softball World Series. Tampa will lift the curtain on its new season with a Friday doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian at Naimoli Softball Field, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. and the nightcap to follow at 6 p.m. The opening matchup provides an early test and sets the stage for a season filled with high expectations and postseason aspirations.
Much of the momentum from last year's record-setting run returns to the diamond in 2026, as Tampa brings back a veteran core that played key roles throughout the postseason push. Leading the group are experienced contributors Kelsey Winters, Kenzie Reynolds, and Gwen McGinnis, whose presence in the lineup and on the field provides stability, leadership, and a competitive edge. Their ability to impact games on both sides of the ball gives the Spartans a strong foundation as they navigate a demanding schedule.
In the circle and across the defense, Kinnah Kreidler and Olivia Feldman return as steady, reliable pieces who anchor Tampa's run prevention, while Joey Trawick adds valuable depth and versatility that will be critical over the course of the long season. Under Kanter's guidance, the Spartans once again feature a balanced roster capable of matching up with any opponent in the region.
Following the opening weekend, Tampa's home slate includes doubleheaders against Assumption, Wilmington (Del.), Southwest Minnesota State, Caldwell, and Hillsdale, in addition to key Sunshine State Conference matchups that will test the team's depth, resilience, and consistency. With a blend of experienced leadership, emerging talent, and a schedule designed to challenge, the Spartans enter 2026 positioned to build on last season's success and pursue another deep postseason run.
