McGinnis Shines; Leads Spartans to Senior Day Win
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Softball Program close the 2026 home schedule with a tightly contested win to take the series against the Tritons.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Records: Tampa 32-11 (19-8), Eckerd 32-11 (20-7)
Location: Naimoli Field | Tampa, Fla.
History: Tonight's meeting was the 135th meeting between the Tritons and Spartans, with the Spartans holding a large advantage in the all-time series 110-25.
Final: Tampa 2, Eckerd 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The weather adjusted series meant that the deciding game of this series was a stand alone affair. Today's game fell on senior day, and the spotlight was firmly on the lone senior, and Spartan ace Gwen McGinnis. Tampa made sure to get off to a good start in this all important game as they would push a run across in the first inning off an RBI groundout from Kelsey Winters. McGinnis got the start in the circle for the Spartans, and after facing an early jam, would get back to what has become business as usual for McGinnis this season allowing only one baserunner over the next three innings. Tampa would take their chance to extend their lead in the fifth inning, as Lennox Ullrich would lead off the inning with a single and then come around to score the second run of the game. McGinnis would show that she did not need the insurance run, and would put the finishing touches on her 10th shutout of the season.
