Tampa Rolls to 76-48 Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - Having not played for a span of 24 days since defeating Palm Beach Atlantic on Dec. 6, the Spartans would have had an excuse for a slow start Tuesday night against Augusta State. That was hardly the case. No. 24 UT cruised to a 21-2 start on its way to a 76-48 victory over the Jaguars. The win, Tampa's eighth consecutive, improves the squad to 9-1 on the year while Augusta State falls to 3-5.
Tampa held a 48-10 lead at the half thanks to a sizzling offense and a stifling defense. The Spartans shot a sensational 72.4 percent from the field while limiting ASU to just 15.4 percent during the opening period. Kym Taylor was a perfect 4-4 for the half scoring eight of her 10 points.
Taylor was one of four Spartans scoring in double figures on the night. Tiara Cook led all scorers with 19 while Caitlyn Mitryk chipped in 12. Gianna Messina added 11.
The Spartans open conference play at home when Nova Southeastern travels to the Martinez Center for a 2 p.m. game. UT will offer a live webcast and live stats through www.tampaspartans.com.
