Sullivan On Fire Again As Spartans Roll Over Rollins
TAMPA, Fla. - Another day, another career performance for Hailee Sullivan. For the third consecutive game the senior guard used a long-range assault to help lead The University of Tampa Spartans (16-5, 6-4 SSC) to victory as UT knocked off visiting No. 18 Rollins (18-3, 8-3 SSC) by a 71-48 margin.
The game was close through the first four minutes, but with the game tied, the Spartans went on a 9-0 run that would put the hosts up 17-8 and set the tone for the rest of the contest.
Tampa surged ahead to a 39-24 lead at the half behind 14 points from Sullivan.
The Skokie, Ill. native finished the game with 26 points, besting her previous career high of 18 which she set just this past Wednesday at Nova Southeastern. Sullivan's seven three-point field goals also established a new career mark, and her five assists were just one off of her best in that category.
Sullivan recorded five treys a week ago at Flagler before being good for six from beyond the arc on Wednesday at NSU.
The Spartans offensive success continued in the second half, holding a comfortable margin throughout. Rollins would pull to within 12 at the 9:36 mark but would get no closer.
No other Spartan would score in double figures, but Tiara Cook, Gianna Messina and Caitlyn Mitryk all pulled down seven rebounds a piece. Messina and Angela Guiu also matched Sullivan's five assists.
Tampa was also strong defensively, limiting the visitors to just 30 percent from the field.
The Spartans continue conference play at the Martinez Center on Wednesday when Eckerd visits. UT will be looking to avenge another loss as the Tritons snapped Tampa's nine-game win streak earlier this season with 73-67 victory in St. Petersburg.
