Tampa Ranked Fifth In NCAA South Region Poll
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team is ranked fifth in the current NCAA Division II South Region Poll. With a 17-5 South Region record, the Spartans are up one spot from last week's ranking.
Tampa is currently 21-5 on the season and riding an eight game winning streak with one regular season game remaining. The Spartans have now won 20-plus games in four straight seasons, a feat that is the first in program history.
Under head coach Tom Jessee, UT has competed in three consecutive NCAA tournaments as the seventh year head coach has guided his teams to four of the program's six postseason tourneys.
Tampa will travel to Lynn for its regular season finale on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Spartans will then compete in the 2009 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Tournament from Mar. 4-8.
Eight teams from each region will earn a bid to play in the 2009 NCAA II Tournament, with South Region automatic bids going to the tournament champions from the Sunshine State Conference, Gulf South Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
NCAA.com will stream the DII Men's and Women's Basketball Selection shows live on NCAA.com beginning at 9 p.m. EST.
