#17 Tampa Concludes Homestand Tuesday Night
TAMPA, Fla. - Off to the hottest start in program history, the No. 17 University of Tampa women's basketball team will put its pristine 5-0 record on the line Tuesday night when the Spartans welcome Florida Memorial to the Martinez Center for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
The 1985-86 and 1998-99 squads both started the season 4-0 before dropping the fifth game of the season.
Tampa has relatively cruised to the 5-0 mark, outscoring its opponents by an average of more than 21 points per contest, and the Spartans have limited the opposition to just a 34.8 field goal percentage.
Tiara Cook continues to lead UT in scoring as the senior has averaged 13.2 points per contest, but junior college transfer Taja Green follows closely behind with a 13.0 average. Green has reached double figures in each of Tampa's five games. Cook is also leading the Spartans in rebounding, pulling down more than seven boards per game.
The Spartans have also received offensive production from reigning SSC Player of the Week Caitlyn Mitryk who has started the season on fire from long range. She has hit 10 of her 20 attempts from beyond the arc including a 3-for-3 performance in Tampa's 94-48 victory over Warner on Saturday.
Florida Memorial holds a 3-2 record and will play Lynn on Monday night before traveling to Tampa for the Tuesday evening showdown. The Spartans have dominated the series, holding a 10-2 advantage over FMU. The two programs last met on the hardwood in 2005 when UT won 80-46 at the Martinez Center.
