Tampa Stays Steady At #16, Begins Conference Tourney Wednesday
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team will open the 2010 BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a battle against eighth-seeded Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday at the Martinez Center. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
Tampa - the No. 1 seed in the tournament - remained in the 16th position in this week's USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll following last week's victory over Florida Southern.
The Spartans swept the season series between the two programs with a 61-49 victory at home and a 62-36 win on the road, and Tampa is 5-1 against the Sharks at the Martinez Center since the 2005-06 season. However, that one loss was in the 2008 SSC tournament when the Sharks won the championship game as it was hosted by UT.
The winner of Wednesday night's game will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of Florida Southern/Lynn.
Tickets for the quarterfinal game will be available at the gate for $10 (adults), $8 (seniors) and $5 (students).
Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
