UT Women Set To Host Ave Maria in Midweek Battle
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa's women's basketball team is set to take the court Wednesday at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center for a game at 5:30 p.m. against the Ave Maria University Gyrenes.
The Spartans (3-5) have dropped two straight games by a combined three points. UT is averaging just under 58 points per game this season.
Junior forward Moriah Hodge leads all Spartans in scoring. She is averaging 13.0 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. Other notable scorers are sophomore guard Illyssa Vivo (11.0 ppg) and senior center Jaleesa Harmon (10.5 ppg).
Hodge led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points on Saturday against Lynn. Vivo led the way in the game prior while posting a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds against Rollins on Dec. 30.
Ave Maria (9-2) has won five straight games. The Gyrenes are averaging 71 points per game this season, while opponents have managed just 55 points against them. Among their victories is a 65-60 triumph over Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College.
Senior forward Sandy Jenkins is averaging 13.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game for the Gyrenes. Other notable scorers are junior guard Emily Huber (13.2 ppg) and senior guard Erika Derks (11.6).
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 (adults) and $3 (children and senior citizens). UT students will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
