Lindenwood No Match For Spartans
ST. LEO, Fla. - In its most lopsided victory since 2009, the University of Tampa (3-0) women's basketball team remained perfect with a 76-43 victory over Lindenwood (Mo.) University (1-1) on Friday at the Bowman Center on the campus of Saint Leo University.
Freshman Juliana Cavallaro got the rout started with a 3-pointer following the tip, as the Spartans never trailed and shot 58 percent from the field in both the first and second half.
Moriah Hodge led all scorers with 21 points as the senior was 9-for-10 from the field. Cavallaro finished with 18 as Illyssa Vivo chipped in 13. The Spartan duo of Cavallaro and Vivo also connected on a pair of 3-pointers apiece.
Greta Bartkute came off the bench to lead UT with six rebounds, as the Spartans outrebounded its opponent by a 36-30 mark. Vivo added five assists while Cavallaro had two steals, both team highs.
Head coach Tom Jessee's squad connected on an identical 15-for-26 from the floor in both halves. The UT defense also held Lindenwood to just 29.8 percent from the field.
The Spartans will conclude play at the Saint Leo Invitational on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., against the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.com.
