Tampa Defeats Francis Marion in Home Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team defeated Francis Marion University 73-65 in their home opener Friday afternoon.
Tampa hit the hardwood efficiently moving the ball and executing in transition at the beginning of their home opener. The Spartans shot over 50 percent from the field, ending the first half up by 15 points. Senior Keke Jones led all scorers at the half with 10 points.
The second period featured a momentum change, as the Patriots managed to capitalize off of Spartan turnovers to minimize the scoring deficit. Francis Marion pulled themselves within three points at the half point mark, but could not impede the Spartans' efforts.
UT newcomers Taylor McVey and Ellen Nurmi finished the game with 16 points apiece, while Jones, Shamika Williams, and Illyssa Vivo all scored in double figures.
