Spartans Slay Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Tampa (4-2) women's basketball team took on Palm Beach Atlantic (3-5) Saturday afternoon, and concluded victorious in a showing of 69-46.

The Spartans began the period with a three point basket by Ellen Nurmi; from there, the tone was set for UT to control the game. The team managed to move the ball well, and outrebounded the Sailfish for the entire game.

Tampa shot 46 and 44 percent from the field and three point range respectfully; fueling a lead of 24 points during the second half. The Sailfish never led, and were held to 31 percent shooting from the field.

Nurmi led her squad with 19 points, shooting 50 or more percent from the field and three point range. Taylor McVey recorded her second double-double on the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Illyssa Vivo added 15 points and six assists.

This victory marks the 400th career win for head coach Tom Jessee; and the program's 600th win.

Next, the Spartans will take on Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University next Saturday. UT leads the all-time series 38-20.
