Spartans Catch Fire in Lopsided Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (6-2) women's basketball team picked up its third straight victory in a 69-40 victory over Southeastern University, Fla. (5-7) on Monday at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
The Spartans surged to a 31-16 lead at the half, and dominated the boards with a 51-29 advantage. UT led by as many as 32 points in the second half as a total of 12 Tampa players finished in the scoring column.
Taylor McVey led Tampa with a team-high 14 points, as senior Keke Jones was also in double figures with 10. McVey also held team honors with eight rebounds while she matched Ellen Nurmi, Diamond Posey and Shamika Williams for the team lead with three assists.
Overall, Tampa shot 39.3 percent from the floor, including seven from 3-point range. Angela Alvarez enjoyed a solid performance off the bench as the sophomore scored eight points with seven rebounds.
The Spartans will travel to Lakeland for a pair of games at the Florida Southern Invitational. UT will meet Fayetteville State on Friday and Quincy on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m., as live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.com.
