Spartans Dominate Lions At Home
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (8-4, 2-1 SSC) women's basketball team defeated Saint Leo University (10-3, 1-2 SSC) 70-55 Wednesday evening at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
The Spartans set the tone and pace of the game early on. After four minutes of play, they never allowed the Lions to lead again. Tampa led by as many as 17 in the first half, after getting back and forth in transition effectively.
Shamika Williams and Taylor McVey ended the first period with 14 points apiece. Keke Jones chipped in 11 points.
After the home team scored the first basket in the second half, they went on to continue their dominance as they held Saint Leo to 32 percent shooting from the field, while forcing 18 turnovers.
Williams led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while McVey registered 18 points and seven rebounds.
Tampa will head to Melbourne, Fla., this Saturday to take on Florida Tech. UT leads the all-time series 31-30. The Spartans defeated the Panthers 52-43 at the conclusion of last season.
