Panthers Edge Spartans on the Road
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa (8-5, 2-2 SSC) women's basketball team fell 72-62 to Florida Tech (11-5, 2-2 SSC) Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans appeared to be in control for the majority of the first period, until the Panther's leading scorer Kayk Wilson got her offensive flow going notching 13 points in the half.
Tampa managed to move the ball well, and played at a desirable pace. The team entered the locker room down by one. Ellen Nurmi registered eight points for the half, after hitting back-to-back three-point baskets early on.
Although the Spartans edged the Panthers in second chance points and rebounds, Florida Tech did not look back as they started to pull away early in the final period. Wilson continued to flourish as she finished with 31 points.
Three Spartans scored in double figures; Aisha Rodney recorded 13 points, while Juliana Cavallaro and Nurmi chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively.
Next up Tampa will take on Eckerd on the road. The Spartans lead the all-time series 68-14. The teams last met in the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinals, where the Spartans defeated the Tritons 52-46.
