Tampa Triumphant Over Tritons
Spartans win 11 straight.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (19-5,
12-2 SSC) women's basketball team documented their 11th straight
win with a triumph over Eckerd College
(9-14, 2-11 SSC) by a 58-40 mark at the Bob Martinez Athletic
Center Wednesday night.
Tampa held Eckerd to a mere 11 points in the first half, which is the lowest number of points scored by an UT opponent this season.
Senior guard Shamika Williams started the game with a three-point basket, which ignited the Spartans to a 7-0 lead. Eckerd trailed the Spartans the entire first half, while maintaining its biggest lead at halftime, up 14 points.
Illyssa Vivo and Williams led at the half in scoring with eight points apiece.
The second period of play was just as energetic with the speed and flow remaining in Tampa's favor, scoring over 50 percent from three-point range.
The Spartans maintained the lead throughout the game with Juliana Cavallaro scoring a team-high 18 points of off 4-of-5 shooting from long distance. Williams added a game-high 10 rebounds.
Tampa will travel to Fort Lauderdale this Saturday to face No.6 Nova Southeastern at 2 pm. The Spartans defeated the Sharks at home earlier this season with a 71-60 win, contributing to Nova's two losses on the season.
