Spartans Race Past Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The No. 14 University
of Tampa Spartans (3-0) defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish
(1-3) Saturday afternoon at Rubin Arena. The Spartans used a strong
second half to ignite the 52-31 victory
The first half was a defensive affair as the teams went into
the locker room with the score at 20-18 in favor of the Spartans.
Both teams were able to hold the opponent to under 35% shooting, as
Tampa held PBA to 26.7% (8-30) from the field. Junior Ellen Nurmi
led the way with seven point.
The Spartans found their grove in the second half, as they
scored the first eight points of the half to pull away for the
victory. As a team the Spartans shot 65% from the field, with
junior Juliana Cavallaro leading the team with eight points. The
defense ware ferocious in the second half as they held Palm Beach
Atlantic to only three field goals, and 13 points.
Collectively UT out rebounded PBA by a total of 42-29, they
were also able to out assist the Sailfish by a 12-10 total.
Cavllaro led the Spartans with 13 total points, while also
pulling in 11 rebounds for her second double-double on the season.
Junior Taylor McVey added nine rebounds for Tampa.
Tampa will be at home on Tuesday, as they host Warner
University. Tipoff is set for 5:30PM.
