Cavallaro And Alvarez Earn Player Of The Week Honors

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following a dominant week, Juliana Cavallaro and Angela Alvarez have been named Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week.

Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of January 18-24, 2016. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.

Cavallaro wins Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this year. In the upset win over the 10th ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks, Cavallaro dropped 18 points while adding two rebounds and two assists. The senior shot 80 percent from the three-point line in the victory.

Against Rollins, Cavallaro racked up 15 points in the Spartans 71-57 victory over the Tars.

Alvarez records her second Defensive Player of the Week, as she anchored the defense in the victory over Nova. Alvarez came down with 12 rebounds, seven coming on the defensive side. She also added 12 points to record the double-double. Alvarez also added two steals and a block. The Spartan defense held NSU to their lowest point total since the 2011-12 season.

Tampa returns to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Melbourne to take on the Florida Tech Panthers. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
