Tampa Receives Seeding For NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After winning the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Tournament, the University of Tampa women's basketball team has clinched a spot in the NCAA South Region Tournament. The Spartans will be the eight seed in the region and will travel to Jackson, Tennessee to face the top seed Union University in the opening round.

The Bulldogs earned the one seed and are the regional host, after posting a 28-3 record and winning the Gulf South Conference regular season title. The two teams met earlier this season in Tampa, where Union pulled out a 59-56 victory.

Tampa will be joined by fellow SSC programs Florida Southern, Florida Tech, and Nova Southeastern in the regional.

Here are the opening day matchups for the regional which will be played on Friday.

No. 1 Union (28-3) vs. No. 8 Tampa (19-12)
No. 2 Benedict (27-2) vs. No. 7 Florida Tech (20-9)
No. 3 Delta State (22-6) vs. No. 6 Nova Southeastern(23-6)
No. 4 Florida Southern (24-5) vs. No. 5 Kentucky State (24-4)

The semifinal matchups are set for Saturday and the Regional Championship is set for Monday Night.
