Ellen Nurmi Inks Professional Deal
Nurmi will continue her basketball career in Finland.
Tampa, Fla. – Former University of Tampa women's basketball player Ellen Nurmi has signed a deal to play professional basketball in her home country, Finland. Nurmi will play for the Espoo United, which plays in the Naisten Korisliiga league, which is the highest level of professional basketball in the country.
Nurmi played for the Spartans for three seasons averaging 10.6 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game. During her senior season, she totaled 320 points in 33 games to go along with 103 assists and 83 rebounds.
When asked about the signing, Nurmi said, "I got a great opportunity from a sports organization that owns both women's and men's basketball teams as well as women's and men's hockey. I work as a publicist full time but also play get to play basketball professionally for the organization."
