HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Tampa opened the game with energy, jumping out to an early lead behind efficient shot-making and strong interior play. The Spartans set the tone in the first quarter, shooting over 60 percent from the field and building a 21–14 advantage. Ryan Franklin and Alanis Diaz led the early charge, combining for multiple mid-range and paint finishes to keep Tampa in control.
However, Eckerd responded in the second quarter, catching fire from beyond the arc. The Tritons knocked down five threes in the period and used a late push to flip momentum, outscoring Tampa 24–12. Despite strong defensive rebounding from Olivia Davis and Giorgia Palmieri, the Spartans entered halftime trailing 38–33.
Second Half
The third quarter saw Tampa regain its rhythm, opening with a Franklin jumper and a three-pointer from Davis to reclaim the lead. Diaz continued to attack the basket, helping the Spartans outscore Eckerd 14–8 in the frame while tightening their perimeter defense.
In the fourth, Eckerd once again found answers from deep and capitalized on late-game free throws. The Tritons shot an efficient 7-for-10 in the final period to pull away. Tampa fought to generate offense, but the shots wouldn't fall as Eckerd closed the game on a decisive run.
The Spartans finished with 20 points in the paint and committed only seven turnovers, but Eckerd's 11 three-pointers and 38–26 rebounding advantage proved to be the difference.
