Bjorge, Jimenez Rios Lead Spartans to Team Title at Saint Leo Invite

DADE CITY, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's golf team picked up its first team championship of the 2021-22 season, winning the Saint Leo Invitational.

OTHER NOTABLES:

• The team title is the fifth in school history for the Spartans, who won the 2021 NCAA South Super Regional in May.
• Tampa won the team title by 20 strokes over Saint Leo and Florida Southern.
• Jimenez Rios remained in the top two on the leadership for the entire round.
• A freshman, the Saint Leo Invitational marked the collegiate debut for Jimenez Rios.
• Finishing second overall, this marks the best overall finish for Bjørge.
• Forstmane moved into the top-five with a third-round 72, marking the best score among all Spartans in the final round.
• Bjørge and Jimenez Rios matched Forstmane for the top individual round by a UT golfer as both carded a 72 in Monday's first round.
• Head coach Missey Jones registered four individuals.
• Ella Mason was second among individuals as the freshman finished 17th overall with a 233.
• Senior Heather Kipniss also participated for the Spartans. 
• Flagler's Sophie Wheeler was the medalist with a 221 (+5), winning by just one stroke over a pair of Spartans.
• Joining UT and host Saint Leo (T-2) from the Sunshine State Conference were Florida Southern (T-2), Embry-Riddle (7), Eckerd (8) and Palm Beach Atlantic (9).

UP NEXT:
The Spartans travel to Kapolei, Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, which is scheduled for October 24-27. The three-day, three-round event that follows a practice round is the final fall tournament for UT.
