Ana Maria Jimenez Rios Wins Lady Mocs Classic to LeadSpartans
LAKELAND, Fla. - At the Lady Moc Golf Classic held at Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla., the University of Tampa's Ana Maria Jimenez Rios was the individual medalist while leading the Spartans to a sixth-place finish.
The event, spanning from February 19 to 20, 2024, saw teams and players from various institutions compete, with Nova Southeastern clinching the team title with a total score of +18. Tampa secured the 6th position with a team score of +38, in a competitive field.
Jimenez Rios stood out as the top golfer not just for Tampa but in the entire tournament, securing the individual first place with an impressive score of -2, across the three rounds. Jimenez Rios carded scores of 74, 69, and 71 to become the medalist by two strokes.
This marks the fourth career medalist honor for Jimenez Rios, who last won at the 2023 NCAA South Regional. She is one of just two players in program history with multiple tournament titles, joined by Kiira Riihijarvi.
Other performers for Tampa included Maxime Holletschek, Emilie Bjorge, Chloe Burdon, and Ella Mason, who all contributed to the team's overall performance.
Holletschek and Bjorge tied at rank 35 and 38, respectively. Burdon and Mason tied for the 61st spot. Freshman Silvia Barnes competed as an individual, placing 70th overall.
Tampa is back in action on March 17-19 at the BarryU Women's Invitational at Miami Shores Country Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.
