Toennessen Finishes Runner‑Up as Tampa Women’s Golf Posts Strong Final Round at Lady Mocs Classic
LAKELAND, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's golf team surged on the final day of the Lady Mocs Classic, firing a tournament‑best 292 in the third round to climb into a tie for sixth place at Grasslands Golf & Country Club.
The Spartans finished with a 917 total (308–317–292) in a field stacked with regionally and nationally competitive programs.
The three‑round event, played Feb. 23 on a 6,105‑yard par‑72 layout, featured 15 teams including Barry, Wingate, Lynn, Anderson, Eckerd, Florida Southern, Rollins, Flagler, Nova Southeastern, and others.
Toennessen Fires Final‑Round 69 to Finish Solo Second
Ruth Toennessen delivered one of the tournament's standout performances, carding a 3‑under 69 in the final round—her lowest score of the season—to charge up the leaderboard and secure runner‑up honors at +3 (75–75–69). Her closing round tied for the lowest of the day and was one of only three scores in the 60s across the entire field.
Bayle Notches Another Top‑10 Finish
Fresh off her playoff battle for medalist earlier this month, Justine Bayle continued her strong spring form, placing T9 at +8 (73–79–72). Bayle's even‑par 72 on the final day helped pace Tampa's team surge and marked her sixth round of 73 or better in her last seven competitive rounds.
