Spartans Set to Face Saint Leo in Home Finale
TAMPA, FLA. - The women's lacrosse team is set to host Saint Leo Friday night at 7 p.m., at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. It will be Tampa's home finale after playing its last 11 games there.
The Spartans enter the game with a 6-7 record and winners of four straight games. The Spartans defeated Emmanuel 17-6 last Sunday. Tampa is led by Morgan Cheripko, Mallory Mays, and Eileen Barrett. Cheripko leads the NCAA with 9.21 draw controls per game. She has picked up at least 12 draw controls in each of the last four games. Mays leads Tampa with 31 goals and 39 points, while Barrett has tallied 18 points and 17 caused turnovers. Emilie Barbosa has netted 23 goals and picked up 22 ground balls.
Saint Leo comes into the game with a 7-4 record after defeating Adams State and Fort Lewis last week. The Lions are lead by Kelsey Burns, Allie Sheftall, and Christina Minneci. Burns leads Saint Leo with 28 points, while Sheftall has netted 22 goals and picked up 24 draw controls and 25 ground balls. Minneci has netted 11 goals and dished out nine assists on the season. Brittany Milsap is 5-3 in the cage and has a 45% save percentage this season.
