Kelly Ryan Named Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa has announced that Kelly Ryan will be its assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program, as announced by head coach Kelly Gallagher.
"We are very excited to add Kelly Ryan to our program," says Gallagher. "I feel that she will continue to add to building our tradition, and representing our program through the development of well-rounded student-athletes."
Ryan was previously an assistant coach at Southwestern University (Texas) from August 2013 through August of 2014. She was the top assistant coach in Southwestern's inaugural season.
She got her start in coaching in 2012 when she spent the summer as the head coach with the Long Island Liberty before pursuing a master's degree from Frostburg State University. She spent the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years serving as a graduate assistant on the Bobcat women's lacrosse team. Ryan also spent two summers with the Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy and worked four years at the McLean Clinics.
From 2007 to 2011, Ryan was a vital member of the Catholic University women's lacrosse team helping the Cardinals to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. She helped the Cardinals to a berth in the Elite 8 in 2008 and was a Second Team All-Landmark Conference selection in 2010.
She also helped guide the Cardinals to four consecutive Landmark Conference Championships during her time at Catholic University and was a member of the Cardinal women's basketball team. Ryan has also spent time as a lacrosse instructor in New York and Virginia.
Her teaching experience also includes FRA Racquetball classes at Southwestern and being a student teacher at John Eaton Elementary School. She also has experience as an assistant cross country coach at Southwestern.
She has also been active in the community, volunteering with the Charity Wiffle Ball Tournament, Friends of Jaclyn Organization, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and basketball instruction in Dublin, Ireland.
Ryan earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2011 from Catholic University and received her Masters of Education with a concentration in special education from Frostburg State in 2013.
