Spartans Welcome Pioneers For Mid-Day Matchup

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa Spartans welcome the Tusculum College Pioneers to the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex Thursday.

Tampa comes into the game with a 3-5 record, coming off back to back losses from No.11 Queens N.C. and Seton Hill. Tusculum enters the matchup with a 5-1 mark on the year. Last time out for the Pioneers they defeated the Shorter Hawks 12-7.

The Spartans' dynamic attack features a triple threat in Amanda Voges, Emilie Barbosa, and Shannon Sweeney. Voges leads the team with 21 goals Barbosa, and Sweeney round out the trio recording ten and nine goals respectively. Tampa's succsess begins with Amanda Rom who leads the team with 43 draw controls. She has also tallied eight goals on the year. Freshman Natalie Carraway is also a key component of the offense as her 11 assists lead the team. Carraway isn't just a facilitator she has also registered six goals of her own.

Defensively Tampa brings their A game, the Spartan defense is led by Amanda Parker, Amanda Rom and Amanda Voges. Both Rom and Voges lead the team in caused turnovers (8) and Rom leads in ground balls (16). Amanda Parker rounds out the trio with her five caused turnovers and 13 groundballs. UT has gone with a committee of goalies this season with a majority of the minutes going to Vala Molamusa.

The team avarages 10.5 goals, 13.6 draw controls, and 16.75 groundballs per game. The Spartans have also posted a clearance rate of .742 on the season. Despite their youth Tampa is a well balanced up and coming team.
