Spartans Open Spring at Mayor’s Cup
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa rowing team opened its spring season at the annual Mayor's Cup, which took place at the Tampa Bypass Canal.
Tampa began the day with a second-place finish in the Women's Collegiate Frosh/Novice with a time of 6:38.80. The University of South Florida won as the University of Tennessee took third place. The Spartans also took second in the Freshman Novice 4+ with a 6:43.43 time.
UT claimed the top two finishes in the Women's Collegiate Varsity/Open 4+ as Tennessee was third. The Spartans had times of 6:06.1 and 6:27.06 in the event. Tampa's first-place team included Megan Richardson, Kaitlyn Goff, Ashia Bales, Taylor DeMesa and coxswain Carley Donovan as the second-place boat was Melissa Ciesielski, Mary Lee Gibson, Alice Rodgers, Meagan Hoffman and coxswain Teresa Hilbig.
The Spartans claimed a first-place showing in the Novice Lightweight 4+, defeating Tennessee. The winning time was clocked at 7:18.00.
Tampa returns to the Bypass Canal on March 30 as it will compete against the University of South Florida.
