World class rower Bill Dunlap has now been Tampa's crew coach since 1981.
Under his tutelage, the Spartans have won five Dad Vail Regattas (small college championship) in the 1980s and 90s. His women's lightweight four crew won the 1987 U.S. collegiate national championship while his women's novice four crew won in '88.
In 1997, UT women's crew took another step by becoming an NCAA sport and two crews won Florida state titles while the team placed second in the inagural Sunshine State Conference championship regatta.
Besides being a nationally respected coach, Dunlap is a world class rower in his own rite. In 1998, he won two master's World Championship gold medals in Seville, Spain, bringing his personal total of golds to five.
